With older comics sold in the UK around 50% had newsagent marks, i.e. cover writing. Writing was either in pen or pencil, and occasionally markers or felt tip pens. Individual comics are sent in board backed envelopes with a piece of recycled cardboard so that the comic is sandwiched, and away from the corners.
