Painting of the cover of Tintin Au Congo comic book on a vintage Democratic Republic of Congo flour sac. Researching the flour sac, I believe this was painted in the Congo by a local artist in the mid to late 60s or early 70s. This particular comic, though made in the 1930s was, for obvious reasons, a popular connection between the people of Congo and European tourists. The painting retained its vibrant, playful coloring and shows marking of once being on a stretched frame. Most likely removed and rolled for travel. The paint has hardened and has a few deep cracks. Great restoration project and unique piece of history.
